About Dana

My photo
I'm a dichotomy of blue jeans, pretty jewelry, frugalista, and Southern girl living the simple rural life. I want to live my life holistically, thoughtfully, economically, and most of all gratefully, and encourage other women to do the same.

Homeschooling 5th Grade

This time of year, I usually share my homeschool curriculum picks for the upcoming academic year. This year, my son will be in 5th grade. Here's what we're focused on:

Math - Saxon Math 6/5
Grammar - Shurley English 5
Bible - Precept Ministries, "Boy, Have I Got Problems" Book of James
Typing - Typing Instructor for Kids
History - The Story of the World, Vol 2: The Middle Ages
Science - Exploring Creation with Astronomy
Spanish - Outside class
Latin 2 - Outside class
Reading - King Arthur, Robin Hood, Adam of the Road
Writing - Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons, Institute for Excellence in Writing
Spelling - All About Spelling Level 1
Art History - Outside class

I always enjoy seeing others' curriculum because it gives me ideas and introduces me to books I may not know about.

Have a happy weekend,
TCB

  1. Thanks for sharing your curriculum choices. My daughter is a little older than your son, she will be finishing 6th grade and beginning 7th. We are continuing to use Time4Learning as our core curriculum, I love it because she can go at her own pace, and the curriculum keeps great records for me. It also offers an art education and appreciation course so we are covered there. We are looking for a new science curriculum since my daughter finished the 7th grade science already. We will be using Prentice Hall Spanish books, and I am still looking for a music class to add. Again, thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thanks for your curriculum info, too. I am not familiar with time4Learning, so I will look it up. This is why I love sharing annual curriculum - all the great input from everyone!
