About Dana

I'm a dichotomy of blue jeans, pretty jewelry, frugalista, and Southern girl living the simple rural life. I want to live my life holistically, thoughtfully, economically, and most of all gratefully, and encourage other women to do the same.

The Spoils of the Day

Have you ever been blackberry picking? It's a sport that calls for long pants, long sleeves, and gloves, but none of those things are viable during our 99 degree June days.

Here are the spoils of our blackberry picking.
I'll spare you the photo of my arm with all the scratches from the blackberry briers. And my son's mosquito bites in <very unfortunate> places.

Half of these went into a blackberry cobbler topped with vanilla bean ice cream the same night.
Many others were added to a bowl of cottage cheese with cantaloupe for a light lunch.

It was also a day of picking a few ripe vegetables from my organic raised vegetable beds. I have been very pleased with the vegetables' quick growth in the homemade soil made using the Square Foot Gardening book as the instructional guide.
I'm happy to get a chance to eat the vegetables I can and not forfeit them to the deer that seem to love them as much as we do!

Happy gardening, and of course, happy eating-

Love,
TCB
